Call for Proposals for Reaching Out Together: Connections Through Social Work

The School of Social Work at the University of the Fraser Valley will be hosting a conference from April 28 to May 1, 2015. We are accepting proposals for Reaching Out Together: Connections Through Social Work  at http://ufv.ca/swhs/conference2015.

The submission deadline has been extended to November 15, 2014.

The proposal submission form can be found at http://www.ufv.ca/swhs/conference2015/proposals/form/, and is very simple to fill out. As well as traditional conference fare, we would like to see innovative, interdisciplinary ideas, so think outside the box. Challenge and engage us! Make us think about the world in a different way!

Please contact swhsconferenceinfo@ufv.ca for more information and other ways to participate or contribute.
We look forward to connecting with you!

Connections are integral to social work. As individuals and as social workers, we are constantly creating meaningful alliances and fostering cooperation in our day-to-day lives. What does this look like in practice, scholarship, and research? Reaching Out Together: Connections Through Social Work will profile innovative and alternative practices and research collaborations. Our ultimate goal for this conference is to facilitate dynamic, significant connections between participants that will inspire further collaboration locally, nationally, and internationally.

We invite practitioners, students, academics, researchers, educators, and policy makers to submit proposals for research presentations, poster presentations, practice-based workshops, think-tank sessions, and field trips.
Submissions may deal with (but are not limited to):

  • Key connections in anti-oppressive and feminist practice
  • Innovative connections utilizing media like art, music, theatre, sport, or group work
  • Interdisciplinary connections and program development
  • Connections in the field or classroom through the use of technology and social media
  • The importance of connection in sustainable community development.

We are looking for submissions that are inclusive and reflective of diverse populations. As all local campuses of the University of the Fraser Valley are located on traditional, unceded territory of the Stó:lō Nation, we encourage proposals from local and international indigenous community contexts.
