Women’s soccer off to a strong start

The UFV Cascades women’s soccer team pulled what they might bitterly consider a “Trinity Western” this weekend by foiling the TRU WolfPack’s hopes of victory with two late goals. The Cascades were victims of a similar outcome last weekend in their season opener against TWU, yet UFV showed no remorse in coming from behind to disillusion the WolfPack on home turf in Kamloops. UFV improves to 3-1-0 on the year.

“I am proud of our team for showing the character to come back and claim all three points against a well organized TRU team,” said coach Rob Giesbrecht. “We were sluggish to start and lacked urgency in our play, but I thought the second half was excellent. We were a more assertive in our attack and even after going a goal down we kept battling and earned the comeback win.”

UFV will return to the friendly confines of Abby Senior Pitch for its next match against the UNBC Timberwolves on Fri, Sept 19 (5 pm).
