Women’s basketball
The UFV Cascades women’s basketball team (13-5) finished their weekend home-stand with a split after defeating the Brandon University Bobcats (5-13) 68-52 Saturday at the EAC. The Cascades maintain a three-way tie with UBC and the University of Victoria for first in the Pacific division of the Canada West, while the Bobcats are a distant sixth in the Prairie division.
On Friday, the Cascades were checkmated by Regina in 64-62 home loss. Close to the final second, Friday’s game between the Cascades and the University of Regina Cougars (15-2) came down to a broken play, two key fouls, and a fateful possession arrow. Ultimately the Cougars grabbed the win to maintain their place in the three-way tie for top of the Prairie division. The Cascades travel to Prince George Friday to take on the UNBC Timberwolves.
