Lots of Cascade action this weekend

The UFV Cascades have a full schedule this weekend as the men’s soccer team plays its two final Canada West regular season games at Exhibition Field, in Chilliwack. The Cascades need the six points this weekend to continue to hold down the third and final Pacific Division playoff spot in Canada West. Currently at 13 points, TWU sits three points back with two games at hand. UFV will need some help from its Canada West colleagues if they are to test he post-season waters for the first time in their eight-year affiliation with the conference.
The women’s soccer team also plays its final two Canada West regular season games of the year in the province of Manitoba. UFV currently sits eighth with 12 points as they visit the Winnipeg Wesmen and Manitoba Bisons on the weekend. If they can sweep the weekend matches UFV will pull ahead of the Regina Cougars, currently at 14 points, with only one match remaining. UFV will finish 7th and qualify for the post season tournament, a third time in four years.
The women’s volleyball team opened the 2013 PACWEST regular season with a sweep of the CBC Bearcats, the defending CCAA national champions host Douglas College Royals, 0-2, this weekend at the Envision Athletic Centre. The men’s volleyball team is in a unique six-way tie for first place as all six teams that played this past weekend split their weekend series. Sporting a 1-1 record the Cascades host the Douglas College Royals, 1-1, on the weekend at the Envision Athletic Centre.
The men’s and women’s golf teams, defending PACWEST champions, participate in the 2013 Ping CCAA national championship golf tournament in Quebec City, Quebec. UFV is looking for its first national title in both genders. The women’s team go into the championships nationally ranked number one, the men number three. The tournament is three rounds on Wednesday to Friday, on Friday the CCAA crowns in champions. Currently the Cascades are in first place in both genders after day two of the event.
