Explore careers in education at UFV’s Mission campus open house

Whether you’re considering a career in education or looking to take the next step in one, the University of the Fraser Valley’s School of Education invites you to discover what’s possible at its Mission campus open house on Thursday, Nov. 12.
From 5 to 7 p.m., visitors can tour the campus, meet faculty and staff, learn about UFV’s education programs and explore career pathways.
“We are looking forward to meeting prospective students at the open house, but we also hope to see current teachers and school district employees who are considering graduate studies or professional development,” says Dr. Vandy Britton, director of the School of Education. “Strengthening existing connections and building new ones with local schools, educators, school districts, alumni and the broader community is important. We want our programming to be responsive to the needs of the communities we serve.”
Located at 33700 Prentis Ave., UFV’s Mission campus is home to four education programs.
- Early Childhood Education certificate is designed for individuals interested in supporting young children’s learning and development.
- Inclusive Education Assistant certificate prepares students to support learners with diverse educational needs in K-12 and community settings.
- Bachelor of Education prepares students for careers in K-12 teaching.
- Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Mentorship is intended for current educators interested in furthering their education and developing their professional and leadership skills.
Representatives from UFV’s Future Students Office will also be available to answer questions about applying to these programs.
Vandy expects some current students to attend the open house and wouldn’t be surprised to see former students there as well.
“We love having our students involved in things that we do,” she says. “We pride ourselves on building strong relationships with our students. The beauty of our work is that we bump into our alumni in schools and the community quite regularly, and many of them return to complete our MEd or become mentors for current practicum students.”
For Vandy, the School of Education is a place where students and faculty share a commitment to making a difference.
“The faculty in UFV’s School of Education are passionate and committed educators who want to make a difference,” she says. “Imagine an entire building full of people working towards the common goal of helping children and adolescents flourish.
“Our students tell us that they ‘find their people’ when they join our programs, and I think that’s magical.”
Walk-ins are welcome, but pre-registration is encouraged.
The open house is supported by the Mission Community Foundation.
