Dr. Lisa Moy UFV’s new Associate Dean of FECHD

The Faculty of Education, Community, and Human Development is welcoming Dr. Lisa Moy as its new associate dean.
Lisa has served in this role on an interim basis since July, and FECHD Dean Dr. Allyson Jule says the decision to remove the interim designation was an easy one.
“Not only does Lisa bring extensive qualifications and over 20 years of experience at UFV, particularly in the School of Social Work and Human Services (SWHS), but she is also highly respected within the university community,” Allyson says. “Lisa is exceptionally intelligent, humble, thoughtful, and relational, and I have greatly enjoyed working alongside her.”
Lisa began her career at UFV in 1998 when she joined as a sessional instructor. She served as an instructor in SWHS from 2000 to 2014, and in 2014, became an associate professor. Throughout her career at UFV, Lisa has taught across all programs within the SWHS, including the Master of Social Work, Bachelor of Social Work, Social Services diploma, and the School and Community Support Worker certificate programs. Her teaching and research interests focus on social justice for equity-seeking groups, social work in educational systems, and interdisciplinary practice.
In addition to her academic contributions, Lisa has practised social work with marginalized communities in areas such as health care, school social work, substance use and addiction, gender-based violence, and community inclusion.
“I believe that my collaborative work across disciplines — whether with hospital teams, school settings, or supporting women in trades — has prepared me to contribute to a faculty with a broad range of academic, professional, and vocational programs,” she says.
Lisa has also contributed to UFV in many ways over the years, serving as chair of the Bachelor of Social Work program and of the Race and Anti-Racism Network (RAN). She has served on several committees, including the University Review committee, the Undergraduate Education committee, the Accessibility Advisory committee, and the Senate Student Appeals committee. She currently serves on the Senate Teaching and Learning committee, as well as several FECHD committees focused on Indigenization, equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), and curriculum.
Although her new role will reduce her time in the classroom, Lisa remains committed to supporting and encouraging UFV students in new and meaningful ways.
“Serving as interim associate dean has allowed me to witness the outstanding work of the FECHD team and the remarkable grit and achievements of our students,” she says. “I am honoured to work alongside our programs as we continue to respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and work towards our FECHD strategic goals of building relationships, creating new pathways, and supporting our students.”
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and English Literature from UBC, a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Victoria, a Master of Social Work from McGill University, and a Doctor of Philosophy from UBC.
She officially began her new role on April 1.
