Canada Day BBQ on the green

Canada Day BBQ on the green

The International Students Association (ISA) and Student Life combined forces recently to host a Canada Day BBQ on the green outside U-house on the Abbotsford campus.

There were a variety of activities, starting at 11 am and running into mid-afternoon. Volunteers cooked up burgers and quizzed attendees on their knowledge of Canadian trivia. There were tables for face-painting, henna art, and cookie-decorating.

The event was hosted by Student Life, staffed in part by international students, and provided with a soundtrack of upbeat tunes by CIVL radio. Both students and faculty took advantage of $2 burgers, and enjoyed the sunshine that briefly peeked out from behind the clouds.

ISA used the event as an opportunity to launch and promote their new campus newsletter, Campus Buzz, which aims to keep UFV students informed of events on campus as well as promote the university to potential international students.

The afternoon peaked with an impromptu water balloon fight and the cutting of a massive cake, which was baked and decorated from scratch by one of the students.
