All UFV campuses except Hope Centre are OPEN on Tuesday , Jan 14. All classes and activities will proceed as scheduled. Hope Centre is closed today.

Allow extra time for commuting due to winter road conditions and use caution when travelling to and around UFV. Drive BC has highway cameras and current information on road conditions.

If you feel it is not safe to drive, please contact your supervisor or faculty member to inform them.

Be prepared for very cold temperatures for this region. Layered winter clothing and footwear are recommended.

Our crews are working to keep walkways, sidewalks, and parking areas clear of drifting snow.

  1. Have you seen the streets in chilliwack? Or side streets in Abbotsford, near to impossible to leave 9 feet without sliding everywhere. I just hope your campus is salted and clear of ice for safety

    • HI Karen,
I appreciate your concern, and as always, your safety is your priority. If you decide the roads are not safe for you, please contact your faculty member or your supervisor to let them know of your decision.

    • Hi Aylam, Safety is your priority. If you decide the roads are not safe for you, please contact your faculty member or your supervisor to let them know of your decision.

  2. Well this wasn’t a very safe decision. You do realize we students suffer greatly for missing work, and feel pressured to endanger ourselves coming to school with all this ice because of the decision to keep the campuses open?

    • Hi Mr. Wiebe, As always, safety is your main priority. If you decide the roads are not safe for you, please contact your faculty member or your supervisor to let them know of your decision.

  3. I’m in Chilliwack and have a class in Abbotsford 7 to 10 pm . Will there be updates for the evening classes ?

    • HI Daryl,
Please assume classes will be proceeding this evening until otherwise informed. We will provide an update for evening classes late this afternoon.

  4. Decided to take the shuttle seeing as” The UFV Campus Connector shuttle bus is running under normal hours of operation.” Shuttle driver said they’re shutting down at 12:30pm today because Chilliwack is “unsafe”. So much for safety if our shuttles can’t run.

    • Dear Unhappy,
As you can see from the post above, the shuttle hours have been tapered with reduced service until 3:30 or 4:30 depending on what direction you are travelling in. This meant we had to cancel classes in Chilliwack so that students dependent on the shuttle where not stranded in Chilliwack, or Abbotsford. UFV is working on a strategy to ensure this does not happen even after the last shuttle bus leaves. We will provide an update at 3pm today.

  5. So if Abby students can’t safely come to chilliwack how can chilliwack students be expected to safely go to Abby campus?? Obviously we will contact our professors but that doesn’t change the fact that we’re missing out due to a poor decision to open the school during unsafe weather conditions, putting students at risk who feel pressured to attempt the drive just because the campus is open.

    • Hi Ashley,
Today at Chilliwack was an unfortunate scenario where the SUS shuttle began operating normally but then reduced their schedule due to weather-related staffing issues. This originally involved suspending service. As you can see from the post above, the hours have been tapered with reduced service until 3:30 or 4:30 depending on what direction you are travelling in. This meant we had to cancel classes so that students dependent on the shuttle where not stranded in Chilliwack, or Abbotsford.
We thought we made it clear that it was a good plan to contact your professor or supervisor if you felt it was unsafe to travel, but perhaps we were not clear enough. Your safety is the number one priority. Faculty are likely to understand this due to the severe weather. We’re sorry for the sudden cancellation of classes but we needed to ensure no one was stranded by the shuttle shutting down.
UFV now has a plan in place that will ensure if people cannot travel safely we have accommodation options. Later today we will know if we have further travel options as well. Please check ufv.ca at 3pm for updates.
