UFV is monitoring the weather across the Fraser Valley.
As of this update, Sunday Feb. 10 at 6:15 pm all UFV campuses are scheduled to be open Monday, February 11 and all classes and activities will proceed under winter conditions.
We will update the status of campuses at 615 am on Monday, Feb. 11.
UFV Risk and Safety, Facilities, Student Services, Communications, and other departments continue to monitor the weather and will update this page, other communication channels (UFV Alert), and the UFV.ca home page should the weather situation change. Many factors are taken into consideration including driving conditions in multiple regions of the Fraser Valley, RCMP road warnings, on the ground reports at each campus, and Environment Canada forecasts and warnings.
Please be prepared for winter temperatures and warm clothing and footwear are necessary.
The campus shuttle bus will be operating on its regular schedule.
Please exercise judgement when deciding to travel and allow extra time when travelling to and around UFV campuses. Please be aware that conditions may change during your time on campus.
Check here or UFV.ca for updates.
You are putting students lives at risk by keeping the school open. Students will feel pressured to go when it is unsafe.
Hi Angela,
Your safety and security should always be your first priority. Please exercise your judgement when deciding to drive.
We’re watching the weather closely. If the status changes we will post by 6:15am tomorrow morning.

close schools this isn’t safe.

how can you expect kids to come from surrey and all over the lower mainland with the roads this bad? Not risking it on the freeway tomorrow.
Thanks Jordan,

Then don’t drive! No one is forcing you! You’re an adult
Hey Dave,
Would be a wiser decision to close the school down as the roads become increasingly worse throughout the morning/afternoon, with very icy roads forming overnight and continuous snow fall. Closing the school down would be exercising good judgment on your part, for the majority.
Thanks
Hi Daniel,
Please check back here or on UFV.ca tomorrow morning. We will have updates posted no later than 0615 am. UFV has many people watching the weather, road conditions, conditions on campuses, warnings, and forecasts.
I also agree with Angela!
Side note: How do you expect students to afford both tuition and snow tires?!
This is nothing. Not sure what you cry babies are complaining about. Either learn to drive or stay home. Personal responsibility. Make your own decisions. Grow up, this is adulthood
A lot of us can drive, and a lot of us do not feel comfortable driving in this type of weather. For the sake of safety and everyone being on the same page for class curriculum, it would be a better decision to close the school down so everyone who cannot come to class for a multitude of reasons can have a peace of mind.
some of us have midterms and exams that we can’t actually miss. it’s not our decision, we will have to come in regardless of how unsafe it is. This isn’t a matter of personal responsibility
Hi Sydney,
Your safety is always your first priority. Please use your judgement if deciding to come to campus.
As the blog post above states, UFV will have an update at 615am Monday morning.
Hi Dave,
As much as I am for school to be open tomorrow, I do have concerns coming all the way from Maple Ridge and going on the highway to Mission; even if the campus is not closed tomorrow I still would have trouble coming and don’t want to lose attendance marks. This would be the case for other students travelling from all over Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland who may find it more advantageous for the campus to be closed.
I do appreciate that many of UFV staff are reviewing the weather and for keeping us informed.
It’s really not safe for commuters, you guys should really reevaluate your decision
Hi Dylan,
Please check back at 615am on Monday for an update. UFV evaluates many factors (see blog post above) when deciding on closures during severe weather. Of course your safety should be your first priority. Use your judgement if deciding to drive.
Right now, at 9:30 pm, we have 15 inches on the roads here in Langley. I wouldn’t be able to get my car out of our road at present, and doubt that will change before tomorrow. It is still snowing. So for students west of Abbotsford, I suspect it will be difficult or impossible to get to campus tomorrow. I will almost certainly be cancelling my classes, and have already warned my students to watch for an email in the morning.
I suspect the school will post a closure in the morning.
Please close the schools snow is awful right now. We’re just here to get an education not risk our lives driving in this. Please let us know ASAP.
Hi Rebecca,
As the post above indicates, UFV will post an update based on road conditions, weather, forecasts, warnings, conditions on the campuses’ grounds tomorrow, Monday, Feb 11 at 615am.
Hello,
If the campuses remain open, can I rely on the student untion shuttle busses to be running? As this is my mode of transportation between campuses.
Thanks you
Hi Megan,
Yes, if the university is open the shuttle buses run. The status of the campuses and buses will be updated tomorrow, Monday, February 11 at 6:15 am. Please check UFV.ca which will link back to the latest post on the blog.
There is too much snow and ice on the roads, it clearly is unsafe to send students or let alone staff out there in such weather. There’s going to be a snowstorm tomorrow as well. Abbotsford and Chilliwack are going to be the hardest hit out of the lower mainland. This is ridiculous.
Yes, it is “our choice” to come or not, but do you realize that many students come to class to learn and that if we don’t, we will, in a lot of cases, lose marks for not attending. So even though we’re technically “not” being forced, in a sense we really are. Its not like a job where we can just get a snow day and make arrangements with the boss/manager etc.
Please, for the safety of both students and staff, take a look outside and be considerate as to what kind of conditions we (and instructors) are going to have to come to class under. I seriously urge other students out there to write about what their conditions are like because clearly UFV isn’t getting a clear idea of how bad it is. Chilliwack is terrible, the snow is already turned to black ice.
Thank you for your consideration and for keeping us posted
Sincerely,
CJ
Hi CJ,
As the post above indicates, there will be an update tomorrow morning at 615am. Please check UFV.ca which will link to the latest post on this blog.
UFV considers many factors when making the decision to open or close during severe weather – safety being the key element.
I feel like a foot or two of snow is nothing to worry about. The reality is that it IS winter— winter tires exist for a reason.
I’m a little disappointed that the school is closed just because of some snow but should we not come to expect that, when it is indeed the middle of winter?
