- And introducing Crystal Sylvester, Coordinator, Hope Centre
Hello everyone, my name is Crystal Sylvester, I am the Hope Centre Coordinator at UFV. I was born in Louisiana and have worked in the areas of higher education, human resources and digital wellbeing. I have a master’s degree in industrial/organizational psychology and a bachelor’s degree in aviation management, these have provided me with experience of the workplace, academia and the role of well-being in learning.
My career has taken me around the world, starting in corporate HR and later transitioning to
instructing university business courses. This also included the opportunity to design Futures Literacy programs and a Futures Center with UNESCO in Saudi Arabia, as well as teaching multilingual student bodies. The combination of these experiences opened my eyes to the strength of character, the value of cultural interchange, and the role of a community.
Today as a member of the Fraser Valley community I am very passionate about the development of partnership, student wellbeing and the promotion of equality and support in learning, which are at the heart of the core values of UFV. Additionally, I am excited to work with different departments to recognize opportunities and align teaching through programs, courses and workshops that meet the needs of Hope and the surrounding area.
Outside of work I am involved in female entrepreneur’s groups, run workshops on digital well-being, and participate in book clubs that are health focused. In my free time, you are also likely to find me at the gym, hiking, doing yoga, kayaking and exploring the area with my husband Craig, and our cat Mona. As a lifelong learner I also seek opportunities for personal growth and enjoy planning off the beaten track travel itineraries to learn more about the people of the world.
It is a real honor to be at UFV and I am very much looking forward to being able to work with faculty and students to help make a positive change in our communities.
