Hi everyone, I’m Sean! I joined UFV in July as the Executive Assistant to the President, Dr. Joanne MacLean, and I’m thrilled to be here! I’ve lived in the Greater Vancouver Area my entire life and attended the University of British Columbia, where I earned a Bachelor of Music. Afterward, I worked in an administrative and executive assistant capacity at Simon Fraser University while studying part-time to obtain a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration. Following my time at SFU, I put my education to good use by helping my father with the financials of his small business enterprises. Although I loved working for my dad and was delighted to experience our personal relationship deepen through our work together, I felt drawn to return to post-secondary education. UFV and the President’s Office seemed like a logical, challenging, and fun next step in my career.

Although I am not presently involved in music in a professional capacity, I consider my foundation in the liberal arts to be incredibly valuable. My undergraduate degree taught me important skills that I have built the rest of my career and life on, such as critical thinking, effective communication, and a strong sense of discipline. I believe deeply in the value of post-secondary education for this reason, and I am very excited to be back in an environment where I’m helping to facilitate this experience for so many young adults.

Outside of work, I can frequently be found attending the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, where I especially enjoy taking my 10-year-old niece. It melted my heart when my brother told me she said, “I want to play the clarinet like Uncle Sean,” so now I have clarinet lessons with her to look forward to in September. I’m also one of those odd people who thinks running, particularly long distances like half-marathons, is a “fun” thing to do. If any UFV employees at the Abbotsford campus are interested in starting a run club with me, definitely let me know!
