EMPLOYEES NEW TO UFV

Congratulations to Shannon Wright, Assistant Professor, Psychology

Hello UFV community!

I am a new Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department, and I conduct research in music cognition.

My interest in music has its roots in a childhood that was filled with ballet and figure skating, two things I still love today. I was introduced to the intersection of music and psychology during my undergraduate degree at SFU, where I conducted my first research project on how moving with music affects emotional responses to music. From there, I pursued a master’s degree in an interdisciplinary programme in Music, Mind, & Technology at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland before landing in Montreal to complete my PhD in Experimental Psychology at McGill University. My PhD work probed questions about how physiological activity changes when we listen to and make music. I plan to continue to ask and to try to answer these sorts of questions in my new position at UFV!

Outside of research and teaching, I love being active outdoors in all seasons of the year. My time in Finland and Montreal taught me the joys of cross-country skiing and outdoor ice skating, whereas the West Coast winters have cemented my enjoyment of snowboarding. In the warmer months, I look forward to packing in as much hiking, camping, cycling, and beach volleyball as possible.

I am thrilled to have recently joined the UFV community. I am passionate about teaching psychology and communicating science, and I look forward to sharing the research and teaching journey with colleagues and students!
