Friday, August 8, 2025 5:23 PM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>UFV\u2019s Abbotsford campus Buildings A, B, and C will remain closed until at least <strong>Wednesday, August 13, 2025,<\/strong> as crews work to restore power following the transformer fire in Building B\u2019s electrical room earlier today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>What this means:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Do not come to campus<\/strong> to work in Abbotsford Buildings A, B, or C from <strong>Monday, August 11 through Wednesday, August 13<\/strong> unless instructed otherwise.<\/li>\n<li>Classes, exams, activities, and events in these buildings will be relocated or rescheduled where possible.<\/li>\n<li>Staff and faculty based in these buildings are encouraged to work <strong>remotely where possible<\/strong>. Please work with your manager or supervisor to arrange alternate work locations if needed.<\/li>\n<li>Other campus buildings are open and operating as usual.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More details will be shared in our next update on <strong>Saturday, August 9, 2025<\/strong>, including information to support staff, faculty, students, and service providers affected by these closures.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for your cooperation as we work to restore services.<\/p>\n<p>________________________________________________<br \/>\n<strong>Initial Post &#8211; Friday, August 8, 2025 3:34 PM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>UFV\u2019s Abbotsford campus is recovering from a mechanical maintenance incident earlier today involving a transformer fire in Building B\u2019s electrical room.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The fire has been extinguished, and Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service has left the site.<\/li>\n<li>BC Hydro has shut down power to Buildings A, B, and C.<\/li>\n<li><strong>These buildings are closed to public access until further notice.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Staff, faculty, and students in these buildings have been sent home for the day.<\/li>\n<li>Other campus buildings are not affected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>IT services in Buildings A, B, and C currently impacted:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wired and wireless network connections<\/li>\n<li>Telephone service (excluding red emergency phones)<\/li>\n<li>Remote desktop connections<\/li>\n<li>Facilities systems\/panels<\/li>\n<li>All desktops, TVs, projectors, phones, and wired\/wireless networks in these buildings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Services not impacted:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Data centre\u2013hosted services (generator running)<\/li>\n<li>Student\/employee email and myClass services (available unless a campus internet connection is required to access them)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>UFV Facilities is working with contractors to assess the damage and explore options for temporary power generation.
