Welcome to the new employees who have joined us since September, 2023 as well as some current employees that have moved into new positions. And congratulations to the temporary employees that have now become permanent! We are very excited to have you join the UFV team.<\/p>\n

EMPLOYEES NEW TO UFV<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Eric Welsh, Specialist, Communications and Writing\"\"<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Hi. I\u2019m new to the UFV communications department, joining the team after 17 years at the Chilliwack Progress.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m a Port Coquitlam kid, born and raised. I graduated from Terry Fox secondary school in 1994 and enrolled in the BCIT Broadcast Journalism diploma program in 1998. After spending one year in radio with CKWX News 1130 AM in Vancouver, I went back to school for a print journalism diploma at Kwantlen College (now Polytechnic U).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My newspaper career started at the Cold Lake Sun in northeast Alberta around 2002. From there, I moved to Edmonton for a two-year stint at the Saint City News in St. Albert, Alberta. Then, back to BC with the Penticton Western News, and finally the Progress in 2007. I\u2019ve lived in Chilliwack since November 2006 with my wife of (soon to be) 23 years, Tracie. We have two teenage children and two food-obsessed terriers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I have sat on the board of the Chilliwack Sports Hall of Fame, including several years as president, and I\u2019ve been part of the selection committee for the Cascades Hall of Fame. I\u2019ve also been a youth soccer coach for more than a decade. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the little spare time I have, I enjoy thrift stores and hunting for vintage toys from the 1980s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s long been a goal to work at UFV and I am very happy to now be a part of this wonderful community. If I haven\u2019t met you yet, I look forward to meeting you in the near future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
