We&#8217;ve assembled some wonderful learning opportunities for you this winter so please take the time to scroll through descriptions below and register for those that you are interested in learning more about. Thank you and have a wonderful semester!<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Course<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nUFV-HR is offering a comprehensive 8-week MBSR course for interested faculty and staff between January 21-March 18, 2021. It involves the following commitments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attending a 1.5 hr orientation on Thursday, January 21<\/li>\n<li>Attending weekly practice-based classes every Thursday thereafter from 6:00 &#8211; 8:30 PM<\/li>\n<li>As a virtual Zoom class, you will require appropriate video and audio access<\/li>\n<li>Mindfulness practices for about 45 minutes a day<\/li>\n<li>A 4-hour silent retreat (virtual) on Saturday, March 6 from 8:30 AM &#8211; 12:30 PM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)<\/strong> is the evidence-based flagship secular-scientific mindfulness program first developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School that has been shown to help with stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain and overall well-being.<\/p>\n<p>Costs are covered by UFV-HR and the course is led by Dr. Seonaigh MacPherson, a Professor in Professional Studies and a certified MBSR and MBCT facilitator. Although working from home can bring many benefits, it can also present many challenges as employees adjust to home and work lives coexisting within the same location. These challenges can be heightened as employees try to cope with isolation, disruption and the uncertainties surrounding COVID-19.
