\"a<\/a>The SLG Program recently hosted an engaging information session for prospective leaders, welcoming students from across the university who were eager to learn more about the role and its impact. The session was well attended and featured a panel of current SLG leaders who shared their experiences, insights, and journeys within the program.<\/p>\n

Leaders spoke about what initially drew them to the program \u2014 from the opportunity to build community at UFV to the rewarding experience of helping fellow students succeed. Many highlighted how the SLG model encourages students to become independent learners while fostering collaboration and shared responsibility in the learning process.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on her experience, one leader shared:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe model of SLG focuses on fostering relationships between students, in a manner where we collaboratively benefit from one another. We build a support system to succeed in a course, and also make some friendships that can last a lifetime.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"3<\/a>Panelists also discussed the broader impact of their role, noting growth not only academically, but also personally, and socially. They spoke about the power of peer-to-peer learning and the ways they design learner-centered sessions using creative and engaging strategies. One leader reflected on how the program challenged her to think differently: she discovered how impactful learning can be when students are actively engaged through thoughtful, interactive approaches.<\/p>\n

Leaders also emphasized the value of working closely with faculty, sharing how these partnerships have supported their development.<\/p>\n

The session left prospective applicants with a clear message: being an SLG leader is more than a role<\/strong> \u2014 it\u2019s an opportunity to grow, connect, and make a meaningful difference.<\/p>\n

\"a<\/a>The SLG Program is currently hiring for the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 terms. Faculty are encouraged to refer students who would make strong leaders, and those interested in supporting their courses through SLG are invited to reach out to Navneet.sidhu@ufv.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n
