{"id":1076,"date":"2020-12-02T00:27:30","date_gmt":"2020-12-02T00:27:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/tlc\/?p=1076"},"modified":"2020-12-02T17:42:31","modified_gmt":"2020-12-02T17:42:31","slug":"new-faculty-kick-start-winter-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/tlc\/2020\/12\/02\/new-faculty-kick-start-winter-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"New Faculty Kick Start &#8211; Winter 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/tlc\/files\/2020\/12\/11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1077\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/tlc\/files\/2020\/12\/11-768x1024.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/tlc\/files\/2020\/12\/11-768x1024.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/tlc\/files\/2020\/12\/11-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/tlc\/files\/2020\/12\/11.png 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>New Faculty Kickstart offered: December 7 \u2013 11, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In December, the Teaching and Learning Centre is hosting New Faculty Kickstart.\u00a0 This is a week long, online event that is designed for new sessional faculty teaching at UFV.\u00a0 New Faculty Kickstart helps faculty build connections between each other and with the Teaching and Learning Centre and more importantly build teaching capacity.\u00a0 Modules that form New Faculty Kickstart include teaching basics where faculty explore Blackboard Learn and the principles of online teaching, pedagogy which builds on concepts of learning outcomes and assessment design, and a module on indigenization and internationalization.\u00a0 Participants in New Faculty Kickstart also have the opportunity to engage with past participants in our faculty panel.\u00a0 New Faculty Kickstart is offered twice per year, in August and December.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NFKS is requested by invitation only. If you are a new sessional, B-type contract, or LTA, your Department Head will extend an invitation.<\/li>\n<li>Designed as a Blackboard course where participants will achieve a Certificate of Completion \/ Badge for completing the whole course<\/li>\n<li>Synchronous and asynchronous sessions\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018Required\u2019 synchronous sessions book-end the course and provide opportunities for attendees to meet each other virtually and build community. This would be run in conjunction with an asynchronous\u2019 get to know you\u2019 activity<\/li>\n<li>Synchronous components offered in the evenings to best accommodate schedules (from 5-6pm)<\/li>\n<li>Asynchronous modules would be used to introduce concepts traditionally covered in the face to face version.
