Research Assistant (On the Frontlines of Care: An Institutional Ethnographic Exploration of Adult Protection Work in British Columbia)

Emerging data suggests that there are serious gaps in the education and training of health care professionals responsible for responding to reports of adult abuse, neglect, and self-neglect. These include, but are not limited to, understanding and implementing relevant legislation, understanding and applying concepts such as vulnerability and capacity, assessment skills specific to adult abuse, neglect, and self-neglect, ethical considerations and considerations of diversity in adult protection work.

The research assistant position described in this posting will be involved in reviewing literature and websites, grey literature, etc, recruitment for interviews and focus groups, qualitative data analysis, report/presentation preparation, and other knowledge mobilization strategies.

The supervisor for this position will work with the successful candidate to ensure that the student’s skill development goals will be incorporated in their workplan and associated activities. The student will receive training in a) qualitative research skills, b) the development of critical engagement, and c) report writing and dissemination. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow their knowledge in emerging topics, and may be asked to co-present with faculty members if interested.

Hours of work:

The work-study position includes 120 hours over the summer 2025 semester. This position is remote and hours are flexible.

Compensation:

$17.40-$17.85 per hour (minimum wage + 10% in lieu of vacation and statutory holidays).
