SWHS Student Practicum Information Letter

March 17, 2020

Dear SWHS Practicum Student,

Thank you for your patience as we navigate the unprecedented situation we all face as a result of the COVID-19 virus. In the midst of much uncertainty, your professionalism and commitment to your education are appreciated.

With the federal and provincial government recommendations for social distancing – and BC’s recent declaration of a public health emergency – we are moving to remote learning to finish the field education component of student learning across all Social Work and Human Services programs. Effective Wednesday, March 18th, all on-site placements will move to remote work locations only.

Some of you will have already been provided with direction and assignments from your field instructor. We will be sending information about student expectations for remote work shortly to field instructors and students. Please provide your Faculty Liaison and Field Instructor with ideas for how you anticipate being able to complete your practicum requirements remotely.

Because students are in such a wide range of settings, each student will need to connect with their Field Instructor and Faculty Liaison to determine an individual work plan to complete practicum hours. Students will be responsible for documenting these hours in IPT. Please confirm that your Field Instructor will approve these hours as you move forward. Please also ensure that your mid-term evaluation report and comments are completed and signed by all parties in IPT.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your Faculty Liaison directly and let them know what supports you require in order to make this transition to a remote learning environment.

You, your loved ones, and the communities you serve are in our thoughts at this challenging time.
