The Accessibility Advisor works as part of the Centre for Accessibility Services team to promote an inclusive, welcoming and accessible environment for all students at UFV. The Accessibility Advisor is responsible for academic support services and accommodations which assist students with disabilities to access UFV programs and achieve success in their studies. The Accessibility Advisor conducts intake assessment interviews with new students, arranges diverse classroom accommodations, provides exam invigilation, exam coordination, alternate format, ergonomic furniture, equipment requests and advises members of the UFV community on provision of accommodations as well as instructional strategies. Accessibility Advisors make referrals to Counselling, Educational Advising, Financial Aid & Awards and other student services and community resources. The Accessibility Advisor also demonstrates knowledge in the use of adaptive software/equipment in an educational setting. The successful candidate works as a member of the Student Services team and must have a willingness to work with other departments to support various accessibility-related programs, initiatives, policies and procedures. Some evening work and travel to other UFV campuses will occasionally be required.

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, or a related Social Science discipline
A minimum of three years’ experience working with adults with disabilities in an educational setting
Experience in dealing with crisis and conflict management
Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries
Candidates must be flexible and skilled at managing the intricacy of a very busy multi-dimensional work environment that is student-centered
Must be Computer proficient and have experience with adaptive technologies
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and travel to other UFV campuses as required

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to work independently
Possession of personal attributes that facilitate teamwork and the development of effective working relationships with a wide range of students, faculty, staff and community members
Knowledge and experience in evaluation of learning outcomes
Teaching experience is an asset
Ability to take initiative, exercise good judgment, and make appropriate decisions
