Nature of Position
The Ridge Meadows Youth Wellness Centre (RMYWC) is a place for youth ages 8-24 years of age who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health and substance use issues. The Centre engages a wide variety of professionals, youth and parents to fulfill a vision where a multi-disciplinary team-based care is easy for children, youth and parents to navigate and to access timely mental health and substance use programs and services. The RMYWC is seeking a Dynamic Youth Navigator/Advocate. The Youth Navigator/Advocate role is an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team: working directly with physicians, specialists, services provides, volunteers and most importantly; youth and parents. The Youth Navigator/Advocate will engage with youth and parents, share community resources, assist with navigating the system of care, link to services, facilitate YWC drop-in sessions. The ideal candidate will be relationship builder, someone who is: patient, compassionate, relevant to youth, able to manage crisis, non-judgmental, trustworthy, a good connector, young-minded and extremely knowledgeable on local resources.

(knowledge, education, skills, experience) The Youth Navigator/Advocate will be a skilled communicator, able to build relationships with youth and parents, highly knowledgeable on mental health and addiction issues and savvy with community and on-line resources. The Youth Navigator/Advocate will hold a community support worker certificate and a minimum of 5-years of experience working directly with youth living with mental health and addiction.

Required Skills
The Youth Navigator/Advocate will have excellent rapport building skills, as well as organization, research, and writing skills.  The successful candidate will be comfortable working a flexible schedule around the needs of youth clients and the RMYWC drop-in hours, confident with technology and on-line resources as well as client information management systems, including statistical records and program reports. The Advocate will be professional and youth-focused in their collaborative work with community organizations, local physicians and specialists for referral and service planning.

This position will report directly to the Executive Director and the YWC Project Coordinator and be responsible for all program documentation, client files and program reports.  The successful candidate will adhere to agency policies, procedures, and accreditation standards of practice. The Youth Navigator/Advocate will work very closely with Family Physicians and YWC Psychiatrists within an integrated model of service delivery.  This position will also actively contribute to the YWC direct user committee and the YWC steering committee and the YWC fund development committee; all working collaboratively to promote the vision of the Ridge Meadows Youth Wellness Centre.

Expected Start Date: April 13, 2017

Wage/Salary: $18.66 Grid Level: 11
