“Five Good Ideas” is a Lunch-and-Learn series organized by the Abbotsford Safe Relations Safe Children Committee – You bring your lunch, we bring the information.
It brings subject matter experts and frontline staff together to discuss relevant and practical ideas on important issues facing Social Service organizations.
Each expert(s) present five practical ideas and explores with the audience how these ideas can be translated into action. The ideas are consolidated and electronically later shared with session participants.

It’s a Dads Life: Understanding and Engaging Men on Their Journey As Fathers
Presenters: Jeff McLean, BC Director – Dad Central Canada, Reg Unrau- Abby Dads Staff and special guests
“Today, Abbotsford is doing a relatively good job of providing services to women and children who are victims of domestic abuse. We are not serving dads well.”
(participant statement at Lunch’n Learn- Nov 10, 2016)
There are precious few services targeting fathers involved in domestic violence, regardless if they are a victim or perpetrator. In order to break the cycle, men need to have opportunities to learn new ways to engage relationships, and practitioners need to find strategies that help dads want to become part of the solution, and not part of the problem.
This interactive and practical Lunch’n Learn will build your capacity to better understand and engage the men in your sphere of influence. Based on research and practical experience, this session will explore what dads in Abbotsford need from practitioners, what our community is doing well, and what we can improve upon.
Abby Dads offers numerous programming options for dads, including support groups, parenting and anger groups, play groups, and family justice support.
