Job Opportunity: Research Coordinator

Cultural Safety Policy as a Tool for Improving Access to Primary Health Care for Aboriginal People.

Position Title: Research Coordinator Status: Part-Time Position (~24 Hours/Week)
Time Period: 1 year contract (with strong possibility for renewal for up to 1 year)

Wage: Will be commensurate with experience.

Nature of Research Project:
Fraser Health is launching a two-year research project in collaboration with Simon Fraser University, First Nations Health Authority, and Stó:lō Nation. This study aims to build upon current research by conducting a community-based participatory research study to examine how cultural safety can be embedded into health policy in the Fraser region to increase access to primary health care for self-identifying Aboriginal peoples. The project will be piloted at the Stó:lō primary health care center in Chilliwack, B.C.

Summary of Responsibilities:
 Organize Research team meetings
 Provide ongoing updates to research team
 Organize community gatherings
 Coordinate the creation of community guiding group
 Develop project logic model
 Coordinate the development of a cultural safety policy framework
 Support implementation of cultural safety framework at designated pilot site
 Recruit research participants
 Conduct focus groups
 Analyse Focus Groups
 Measure project of project based on logic model.
 Other responsibilities, as required.

 Undergraduate level education in a related field (or equivalent experience)
 Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
 Ability to work independently and within a team
 Sound knowledge of community-based research principles
 Solid understanding of qualitative research methods and experience carrying out semi-structured interviews
 Excellent administrative and organizational skills
 Experience in or understanding of Aboriginal Health and Cultural Safety.
 Excellent networking and facilitation skills
 Experience in analyzing and summarizing qualitative data 3
 Proficiency in applicable software programs (i.e. Microsoft Office, excel).
