SHESHATSHIU INNU FIRST NATION is accepting applications for Four (4) Social Workers
The Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation Social Health Program located in the beautiful community of Sheshatshiu, Labrador is presently recruiting to employ four (4) dynamic, skilled individuals with a background in social work. They will liaise, provide family support and preventative services for the community of Sheshatshiu in cooperation with the Child and Family Services Division of the Department of Children Seniors and Social Development (CSSD) in matters related to child welfare. Overall program components include Advocacy, Outreach Services for Children in Care, In-Home Family Support, Community Education, Training and Program Development, Foster Home Recruitment. The community development approach which will guide this work. The focus will be to develop both community resources and to build the capacity of the Innu population.
The social workers will report to Social Health Director under the supervision of the Clinical Manager.
The applicant will have knowledge and understanding but not limited to case management, service provision, liaising with First Nation community members, and program administration. The ability to work a flexible 35-hour work week. The applicant should have a thorough knowledge of the provincial child protection legislation. Knowledge and/or experience working in a First Nation community. Experience providing direct support services to children and families. Should have sound written and oral communications skills, organizational management, facilitation, and ability to work in an environment which require cultural competency. As well as the ability to work with and through translators. Knowledge of the two Innu communities of Labrador will be considered an asset.
Degree in social work and eligibility for registration with the NLASW;
Preferably 2-5 years’ experience in social work field.
