Addictions Counsellor

Department: Health

Reports to: Health Director

Employment Status: 3 days per week – salaried position

Katzie First Nation is located in Pitt Meadows; BC and has an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and dedicated team. The Addictions counsellor will provide assessment, case coordination, counselling and programming for members who are experiencing issues related to addictions

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess and determine client needs
  • Counselling individuals, families and groups using therapeutic techniques
  • Program planning and implementing appropriate activities
  • Referrals to alternate services
  • Coordinate consultations with other services with respect to case management
  • Manage cases through documentation, recording treatment plans, case consulting
  • Participate in team meetings both internal and external
  • Provide liaison and outreach services to individuals or families
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of relevant regulations, policies and procedures and stator duties
  • Must abide by drug and alcohol service providers code of ethics and have a strong commitment to a personal wellness plan

Summary of Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred; Bachelor of Social work or related degree in counselling; or in associated field with a specialty in addictions
  • 3 years demonstrated experience working as a counsellor in the field of addictions
  • Strong proposal writing and reporting abilities
  • Clean criminal record check
  • Good communication: written and oral
  • Excellent understanding of First Nation issues and culture
  • A well‐defined sense of diplomacy; negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills
