Belgium: Venice of the North

by Tanya Vanpraseuth

Bruges, Belgium, otherwise known as the “Venice of the North,” was the first place I visited in Europe. The city itself was absolutely stunning. I have seen plenty of photos of Belgium online and I was expecting a lot when I arrived. Fortunately for me, the city did not disappoint. The architecture, culture, and food had been exactly what I imagined Europe would be like.

Our first activity in Bruges was a boat tour through the canal, something that I have always wanted to do in Europe. These are some photos of the amazing view from our boat tour:

After our boat tour we walked around the city and explored the architecture, amazing cathedrals, and towers. Bruges was filled with boats, horses, and people riding their bikes through the city. Everywhere you turned you could either find a place that sold waffles, ice cream, or chocolate. The streets were filled with culture.

What is Belgium without amazing waffles?

Bruges had been an amazing city to explore. I am extremely excited to be able to explore even more of Europe during my time here.
