NTU Singapore with Sara

Another #UFVExplorer who took the plunge and moved to Singapore is second year BA student Sara Hoffman. Sara has a passion for athletics, and hopes to switch to a Bachelor of Social Work upon her return to UFV. Her passion for athletics spans the globe, as she has also taken it upon herself to join the track and field team at her host university, Nanyang Technological University (NTU)! Sara chose NTU out of the long list of partnerships from UFV to take after her mother who had told Sara stories of her

adventures there, sending photos and videos of the places to see. Ever since high school, Sara wanted to study abroad one day.

Some challenges that were faced in planning to go abroad were related to communications and organization, although Sara noted that planning on going abroad last minute is not the easiest thing to do to begin with! Now that she’s in Singapore, Sara says “[I] absolutely have loved every minute of being here…”

You can’t go wrong with taking the plunge to go abroad. “Advice I would give to students who are looking to go abroad is DO IT! It will be one of the best experiences of your life. You meet so many different and great people from around the world and get to learn about many cultures. For me since I went to Singapore, Singapore is very close to Malaysia, Thailand, Bali, Vietnam, Cambodia and more. You can travel around Asia for very cheap while still going to school. It is an experience of a life time and you will not regret it.” I

would say not – travelling to all of those places are the feat of a lifetime! Sara’s best experience so far has been many things: “[I’ve loved] everything from the food, the people, [and] the diversity of cultures. I will remember this trip for the rest of my life and I am so thankful that I got this opportunity. Very thankful for UFV [for] allowing their students to study abroad almost anywhere around the world.”

~~If these encouraging and exciting anecdotes don’t convince you to go on an adventure you’ve been dreaming of, come on in and let us know how we can help! Let’s bust those #studyabroadmyths in your mind and send you packing. You’ll be glad you did. Thank you, Sara, for sharing your experiences!~~
