The Symposium will be held at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kpu.ca\/surrey\">Kwantlen Polytechnic University <\/a>in Surrey on\u00a0Saturday, October 14th, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The Entomological Society of British Columbia\u2019s Annual General Meeting Symposium this year is:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em><strong>Biological Control: a safe approach to pest management<\/strong><\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Biological control uses natural enemies of weeds and insect pests to manage their numbers. It is a sustainable alternative to chemical pest management with benefits both to society and the environment. The symposium will highlight the roles of biological control in reducing the impacts of invasive species and other pests. It will cover a range of crops and ecosystems, and highlight new developments in biological pest control in terms of agents and targets.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/files\/2017\/10\/EntSocBC-AGM2017.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6379 size-medium alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/files\/2017\/10\/EntSocBC-AGM2017-225x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/files\/2017\/10\/EntSocBC-AGM2017-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/files\/2017\/10\/EntSocBC-AGM2017-113x150.png 113w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/files\/2017\/10\/EntSocBC-AGM2017-150x200.png 150w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/files\/2017\/10\/EntSocBC-AGM2017.png 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>On October 13th at UFV there will be student presentations and contributed papers. On Saturday a Biological Controls themed symposium will be held at Kwantlen Polytechnic University Surrey campus. You can attend one or both days, and <strong>students get a discounted rate<\/strong> <strong>for registration<\/strong>. The meeting is a great opportunity for students to meet professional entomologists from around the province, and to find out about entomological work in our local area.
