{"id":5733,"date":"2017-06-19T16:46:36","date_gmt":"2017-06-19T16:46:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/?p=5733"},"modified":"2017-06-19T16:56:25","modified_gmt":"2017-06-19T16:56:25","slug":"community-coordinator-position","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/2017\/06\/19\/community-coordinator-position\/","title":{"rendered":"WildSafeBC Community Coordinator Position &#8211; Closing Date JULY 3rd"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bccf.com\/node\/3490\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-5737 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/files\/2017\/06\/bccf_logo_green.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/files\/2017\/06\/bccf_logo_green.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/files\/2017\/06\/bccf_logo_green-109x150.jpg 109w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/files\/2017\/06\/bccf_logo_green-146x200.jpg 146w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Location: Chilliwack <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WildSafeBC\u2019s mission is to reduce the number of human &#8211; wildlife conflicts in communities through education, innovation, and cooperation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>JOB DESCRIPTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WildSafeBC Community Coordinators are responsible for the delivery of the WildSafeBC program in their community.<\/p>\n<p>This position requires maturity, self-reliance and the ability to work alone for long periods of time with minimal supervision.<\/p>\n<p>Community coordinators will be trained in the use of proven education and delivery techniques, which they will then be expected to implement within their communities.<\/p>\n<p>Community coordinators will also be called upon to deliver conflict-reduction information about all species of wildlife as part of BCCF\u2019s WildSafeBC program.<\/p>\n<p>Tasks of the community coordinator include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Delivering WildSafeBC presentations to community groups, service clubs, and schools.<\/li>\n<li>Setting up and presenting public displays during community events and special functions.<\/li>\n<li>Conducting door-to-door campaigns in problem neighbourhoods where wildlife conflicts are present. Coordinators will expect to be pro-active and positive in their approach with the public.<\/li>\n<li>Developing and maintaining a working relationship with local Conservation Officers and bylaw officers.<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer recruitment, orientation and direction to assist with various functions of the program.<\/li>\n<li>Working with the local media (print, radio, television and internet) to reach the entire community.<\/li>\n<li>Working with all groups and individuals within the community, regardless of their views or personal positions they have with regards to wildlife.<\/li>\n<li>Determining which attractants are causing problems within a community.<\/li>\n<li>Developing long term human-wildlife conflict reduction plans that are based on community desires.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must have a valid class 5 driver\u2019s licence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Must have a reliable vehicle that can be insured for work purposes and pass daily vehicle inspections.<\/li>\n<li>Should have good understanding of local human-wildlife issues.<\/li>\n<li>Should have a proven ability to write clear and concise reports.<\/li>\n<li>Must be willing and able to successful pass a Criminal Record check<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Post secondary education which may include:\n<ul>\n<li>Renewable Resources Management<\/li>\n<li>Renewable Resources \u2013 Fish, Wildlife and Recreation<\/li>\n<li>Natural Resource Management: Wildlife and Fisheries<\/li>\n<li>BSc. Biology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>SKILLS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>General computer proficiency. Preference for those with good working knowledge of: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.<\/li>\n<li>Specific computer skills: All short-listed applicants will be required to complete a Word and Excel competency test prior to interviews.<\/li>\n<li>Internet use.<\/li>\n<li>Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to work with strangers.<\/li>\n<li>The ability to work in a professional manner with minimal supervision.<\/li>\n<li>Strong communications skills (both oral and written).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>JOB DETAILS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Hours<\/u>: Part time<\/p>\n<p><u>Start date<\/u>: Wednesday July 12<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 November 30<sup>th<\/sup> 2017<\/p>\n<p><u>Wage<\/u>: $18.00 per hour<\/p>\n<p>There will be a training session for the successful candidate\u00a0in Squamish Wednesday July\u00a012<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 Friday July 14<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a02017.\u00a0 All costs will be covered.<\/p>\n<p>*Preference will be given to local candidates<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-apply-for-this-job field-type-text-long field-label-above\">\n<div class=\"field-label\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bccf.com\/node\/3490\"><strong>APPLY ONLINE\u00a0 AT BC Conservation Foundation<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>Submit a cover letter and a complete resume <u>including 3 references<\/u> with contact information.
