This expository talk is intended to demonstrate the utility of simulation and graphics for four selected situations.\u00a0 The first illustrates the power of smoothing, the second the validity of the bootstrap, the third the power of creative use of simulation and graphics to amplify the utility of meagre data, and the fourth to reveal a surprising property of sports league point spreads. The applications discussed are respectively, gasoline consumption, Body Mass Index, bakery deliveries, and the league table for Premier League football.\u00a0 The overall message in these examples is that there exist simple yet non-standard techniques, using simulation and graphics that could be included in undergraduate statistics courses.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ssc.ca\/en\/publications\/ssc-liaison-newsletter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/ssc.ca\/sites\/ssc\/files\/styles\/newsletter\/public\/liaison.v31n1.opt_dragged.png?itok=X_iKqm4Y\" alt=\"\" width=\"142\" height=\"184\" \/><\/a><strong>Dr. Weldon<\/strong> is an Associated Professor in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfu.ca\/\">Simon Fraser University <\/a>(retired 2007).
