{"id":1661,"date":"2014-10-28T16:30:44","date_gmt":"2014-10-28T16:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/?p=1661"},"modified":"2018-08-02T21:13:13","modified_gmt":"2018-08-02T21:13:13","slug":"science-alumni-included-in-the-top-40-ufv-alumni-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/2014\/10\/28\/science-alumni-included-in-the-top-40-ufv-alumni-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Science Alumni included in the Top 40 UFV Alumni list"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/top-40-alumni-630x350.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"304\" height=\"169\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The list includes alumni who attended in the early days of Fraser Valley College in the 1970s, those who helped plan and shape the new degree programs during the university-college phase, and recent graduates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I look at this list, I am truly impressed by breadth, depth, and variety to be found in our alumni ranks,\u201d noted <strong>Nancy Armitage<\/strong>, Manager of Alumni Engagement. \u201cAnd it really illustrates the impact that UFV alumni are having in our communities and around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than 260 nominations were received for the Top 40 Alumni after a community-wide appeal. Representatives from the UFV Alumni Association and the university then selected the Top 40 based on a set of criteria that included community contributions, commitment to others, career\/professional excellence, leadership, creativity\/innovation, and acting with selflessness or courage.<\/p>\n<p>The Top 40 alumni are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Shirzad Ahmed, UT \u201994<\/strong> \u2014 Lawyer, human rights advocate, and UFV 2011 Distinguished Alumni winner<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rebecca Anderson, Dip \u201993<\/strong> \u2014 Women and family rights advocate and lawyer, community volunteer; attended UFV during its university-college phase and helped shape curriculum for degree programs<\/li>\n<li><strong>Luke Armstrong, BGS \u201911<\/strong> \u2014 International security professional, providing security services to NGOs in nations experiencing turmoil<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shelley Besse, Dip \u201999<\/strong> \u2014 President of Envision Financial and internationally recognized leader<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kelly Chahal, MA \u201911<\/strong> \u2014 Probation officer, community volunteer, key member of Friends of UFV, a community group that campaigned for university status for UFV in the mid-2000s<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stu Chahal, BCIS \u201906<\/strong> \u2014 Computing professional;
