Evans Leaders Fund<\/a>\u00a0grant through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.innovation.ca%2F&amp;data=05%7C01%7CDarren.McDonald%40ufv.ca%7C22ae7cf3adaf4912443b08db9aaa29ed%7Ca3d10b1dc22648f9a6db976df918187e%7C1%7C0%7C638273827856100477%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=twpS1Fw2bHc5Ziw8bWELg2CzDQit6NO69HwfVOU6tLk%3D&amp;reserved=0\">Canada Foundation for Innovation<\/a>. Those funds were matched through the provincial government\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/governments\/technology-innovation\/bckdf\">BC Knowledge Development Fund<\/a>\u00a0(BCKDF), with an additional $113,611 provided through in-kind donations by equipment suppliers. Dr. Spooner\u2019s funding co-applicants included professor emeritus <strong>Dr. Noham Weinberg<\/strong> and Heather Wiebe (BSC \u201911), a\u00a0UFV adjunct professor and assistant professor at VIU.<\/p>\n<p>UFV\u2019s CHPR will aim to better understand how pressure affects chemical and biochemical reactions, creating the opportunity to identify new compounds capable of benefitting a wide range of key sectors.<\/p>\n<p>This research could lead to the development of new kinds of electronic devices that are smaller, faster and more energy efficient than current technologies, as well as new processes for food preservation to increase shelf-life and eliminate pathogens.
