{"id":11863,"date":"2023-07-31T17:18:55","date_gmt":"2023-08-01T00:18:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/?p=11863"},"modified":"2023-08-01T15:01:06","modified_gmt":"2023-08-01T22:01:06","slug":"liysf-2023-day-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/2023\/07\/31\/liysf-2023-day-3\/","title":{"rendered":"LIYSF 2023: Day 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Welcome to Day 3 of LIYSF!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Manjot here, to start off the day we had a principal lecture from Professor Waseem Qasim, a pediatric immunologist and Professor of Cell and Gene Therapy in London. Dr. Qasim&#8217;s work focuses on leading \u2018bench-to-bedside\u2019 development of translational gene therapies for children with blood and immune disorders. His research group was one of the first to incorporate genome editing technology like CRISPR\/Cas9 and base editing leading to new treatments with engineered T cells. There were over 130 student presentations. I felt extremely honoured to represent UFV internationally with my research project on enzyme immobilization and digestion using hydrogels for bottom-up proteomic analysis. It was really inspiring to see other student\u2019s projects and learn from students around the world! Hearing from all the younger students inspired me and I feel a sense of hope and excitement for the future of science and technology, knowing that such talented and determined individuals will soon be leading the way!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11866 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/science\/files\/2023\/07\/IMG_6446-scaled-e1690761381514-773x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"570\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our day ended with an early dinner so Catherine and I got to explore London and go shopping. We went to the Harrods Chocolate Hall which was like paradise for chocolate lovers!
