The kick off event for the pollinator garden was led by biology professors <strong>Alan Reid<\/strong> and <strong>Sandra Gillespie<\/strong> back in March as part of the UFV&#8217;s March for Sustainability series. This effort is a collaboration between a variety of UFV departments such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufv.ca\/sustainability\/\">Office of Sustainability<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufv.ca\/land-and-environment\/\">School of Land Use and Environmental Change<\/a>\u00a0(SLUEC), the <a href=\"https:\/\/ufv.ca\/biology\/\">Biology department<\/a>, the groundskeepers, and the SLUEC and Agriculture Student Associations, as well as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abbotsford.ca\/\">City of Abbotsford<\/a>. The garden will not only benefit the pollinators, it will also provide a teaching space for courses on plant, invertebrate, and vertebrate biology as well as biodiversity and conservation.<\/p>\n<header>\n<p class=\"title\"><strong>Pollinator garden helps rebuild local ecosystem after 2021 flood and heat dome<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Article by Gerald Narcisco, UFV Today<\/em><\/p>\n<\/header>\n<p>Just behind the L\u00e1:lem te Baker student housing on UFV\u2019s Abbotsford campus lies a new, neatly manicured garden. Lush green shrubs blend in with an assortment of flowers, herbs and plants. Some are in full bloom; others are just sprouting.<\/p>\n<p>Although it is serene, the garden \u2014 which spans almost 100 feet\u00a0 \u2014 serves a greater purpose. The planners behind the pollinator garden at UFV were intentional, prioritizing functionality and social responsibility over aesthetics.
