\nWelcome to Annabelle and Rhien\u2019s 2022 LIYSF blog. Over the next 2 weeks, we\u2019ll be sharing our adventures as we attend the 63rd London International Youth Science Forum. We want to thank the University of the Fraser Valley Faculty of Science for the tremendous opportunity to attend this forum. We\u2019re both so excited to learn more about STEM, meet likeminded students from across the world, and enjoy all that London has to offer! <\/span><\/p>\n

Our first full day of LIYSF was yesterday! Our morning started off with a welcome ceremony, complete with a parade of all the flags from participants across the world! There were 67 flags present and it was such a surreal feeling seeing the Canadian flag being flown. <\/span><\/p>\n

The next activity was a lecture in the Royal Geographical Society auditorium by Professor Ian Chapman, CEO of the UK Atomic Energy Authority. He taught us all about plasma, nuclear fusion, and the future of sustainable energy. We particularly enjoyed how he explained complex topics in ways that both a physics enthusiast (Annabelle) and a biology-kinesiology enthusiast (Rhien) could understand. <\/span><\/p>\n

Our first full day ended with a trivia game that quizzed us over all areas of STEM. Before we headed to bed for some much needed rest, we caught up with our new friends and played some foosball in the Imperial College\u2019s common room. We\u2019ve really enjoyed both the science and social aspects of the forum so far and we are so excited for what the rest of these 2 weeks will offer us! <\/span><\/p>\n
