The SASI, in partnership with UFV’s School of Creative Arts (SoCA) brought the ‘Haq and History’ exhibit to UFV’s S’eliyemetaxwtexw Gallery from January 15th to February 13th, 2020. The exhibit is based on a partnership between the South Asian Studies Institute and the Royal BC Museum since 2014. The exhibit was curated by the Royal BC Museum.<\/p>\n

The SASI and RBCM have worked together to record, narrate and include in a historical record the stories of Punjabi settlers in the Province of British Columbia, having collected interviews and collected archives of 148 Punjabi families across the entire Province.<\/p>\n

Before travelling to UFV, the ‘Haq and History’ exhibit was on display at the RBCM’s Pocket Gallery in April, 2019.<\/p>\n

The reception at UFV was well attended by local Punjabi settlers with very deep roots in the Valley, UFV faculty, staff and students. Dr. Joanne Maclean, UFV\u2019s President and Vice-Chancellor provided a welcome address and Dr. Tzu-I Chung provided context from the RBCM. She and Janet MacDonald were present as representatives from the Royal BC Museum.<\/p>\n

They keynote address for the evening was Belle Puri, a long time reporter for the CBC, and whose family has very deep Punjabi settler roots in BC<\/p>\n

After its run at the UFV Gallery, the ‘Haq and History’ exhibit moved to the Sikh Heritage Museum and will be available there from March 2020 – September 2020.<\/p>\n
