The SASI 2015 curated exhibit,\u00a0(Mis)Interpretation: Sikh Feminisms in representations, texts and lived realities<\/em> recently traveled to the University of Victoria’s Maltwood Gallery as part of their exhibit titled:\u00a0Disobedient Women: Defiance, Creativity, Resistance.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

SASI’s original exhibit was featured at the UFV’s\u00a0S\u2019eliyemetaxwtexw Art Gallery and looked at\u00a0de-centring the notion of a normatively androcentric faith discourse by (re)raising the textual and practical meaning of Sikh feminist thought and understanding. The artist for the SASI curated exhibit, Suvi Bains (UFV BA Visual Arts ’14) attended the launch in October and provided an artist’s talk about her work.<\/p>\n

The Maltwood gallery launch included poetry, artist talks, and songs by the Raging Grannies. According to Darlene Clover who was the guest curator for the UVic exhibit, “[t]he exhibition is getting rave reviews and is the first time any exhibition at the Legacy Gallery has been profiled across campus.”<\/p>\n
