May 17, 2016 was a historic day in the BC Legislature and for South Asians in particular. MLA and Minister of Technology, Innovation and Citizens’ Services, Mr. Amrik Virk welcomed government officials, community members and professionals to a new and permanent installation highlighting the contribution of Indian soldiers who served in the war effort of WWI. The exhibit ‘Defenders of the Crown’ was produced by Indus Media Foundation (www.imfc.org<\/a>) a South Asian non-profit community partner of the CICS, at the invitation of the\u00a0MLA of Richmond East, the Honourable Linda Reid (Speaker of the House). The display features Victorian and WW1 campaign medals \u00a0donated by the Indus Media Foundation along with an officer’s sabre\u00a0belonging to the grandfather of Mr. Amrik Singh Virk\u00a0– a\u00a0veteran of WW1. \u00a0The exhibit was curated by Steven Purewal (IMFC) and installed with the assistance of the Royal BC Museum who provided their expert services in fabricating the display unit.<\/p>\n

The exhibit will now be a permanent feature in the British Columbia Legislature rotunda outside the Main Legislative Assembly Hall for any visitor to view.<\/span><\/p>\n
