A message from Joanne MacLean

Dear colleagues,

Today is day one and I am excited to get to work as President of UFV.

I hope to see you at one of the informal receptions today in Abbotsford (room A225) at 10 am, or in Chilliwack (Rivers Dining Room in the TTC) at 2:30 pm.

Over the past few months I have been meeting with Jackie Hogan and many others to transfer information and to transition from her incredibly capable and conscientious stewardship of UFV over the past year. Thank you Jackie for your dedication and commitment to the university.

I knew right from my first visit in 2012 that UFV was a great match for me because of our commitment to our students and to our community.

There is a perspective on education here that aligns with mine, one recognizing the importance of teaching and learning. Our faculty, administration, and staff are focused on providing an excellent student experience and we appreciate the important connections between applied research, the undergraduate focus, and the university’s role in the engagement and development of the growing Fraser Valley community.

This is only the beginning, but I’m already thinking about how we will measure our success at the end of this next chapter. Looking toward the future, I know we will be able to say with confidence that UFV is a thriving university with a program mix that meets the needs of society. That we are well connected to our communities and our faculty, staff, and students are happy and engaged with their work. That we are on solid financial footing and are well understood and respected in BC and beyond.

People should know who we are, what we do, and why we’re really good at it.

I want to see your best ideas and encourage your creative solutions. I’m looking forward to working with you and to hearing your thoughts as invaluable contributors and constituents of UFV.

Sincerely,

Dr. Joanne MacLean
President and Vice-Chancellor
