Cybercriminals love this time of year because they know you are busy and distracted. Here are some of the most common scams we see targeting our community right now:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Document signature requests:<\/strong> This comes in as a request to sign or review documents, often claiming they\u2019re time-sensitive or urgent. These could be fake contracts, invoices, or vaguely named files. They may impersonate or use cloud sharing services like DocuSign, SharePoint, or Adobe Sign to seem legitimate. These attachments and links can drop malware, or steal your login credentials.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fake bid\/proposal requests:<\/strong> You might get emails asking you to submit bids, quotes, or proposals for services. Scammers often spoof real companies or use email addresses that look official. Always verify the sender before clicking links or opening attachments. They offer a cheap price or shipping fee in exchange for an item, often power tools or music equipment.\u00a0 In reality, there is no item on offer, the scammer only wants to steal your money.<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/itservices\/2025\/03\/beware-of-donation-scams\/\"> Read our previous blog post about this type of scam here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The best defence against phishing is a little skepticism and a quick double-check:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Forward unusual or suspicious emails to <strong><em>phishreport@ufv.ca.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>We will verify it for you.<\/li>\n<li>Do not click on links or download attachments from unknown senders.<\/li>\n<li>If something sounds urgent or too good to be true, always <strong>slow down<\/strong> and check carefully.
