Windows 10 Upgrade – What do I need to know?

September 30, 2019

Why are we doing this project?
Windows 7 will no longer be supported after January 2020; IT Services is leading a project that will see all centrally managed computers upgraded to the Windows 10 operating system. This includes all employee, student lab, and classroom based computers. Windows 10 will bring enhanced productivity tools and improved security measures aimed at keeping data safe and secure.

What we have done so far:

Phase 1: Computer Labs and Classrooms
Status: 90% complete
UFV computer labs and classrooms were upgraded to Windows 10 beginning in the Summer.

Phase 2: Computer Refresh
Status: Ongoing
All devices that are eligible for refresh under the UFV Employee Computer Refresh Program are being deployed with Windows 10. This has been in effect since May 2019.

Phase 3: Staff and Faculty Windows 10 Reimage
Status: Planning
ITS will keep you informed, in advance, of the plan and schedule for these upgrades.
