I am a fourth year student at UFV. I came to UFV in December 2013 from Mumbai. I was born and raised in Mumbai. I first came to Toronto in December and after a week’s stay in Toronto, moved to Abbotsford to study Computer Information Systems at UFV. My first few initial days were the hardest primarily due to the harsh winter and being away from family and friends made things even worse. However with the passage of time things began to settle down especially when the classes started. Classes, assignments, practical and project work have definitely been keeping me on my toes. With the beginning of the classes I made new friends both Canadian and non-Canadian and this is what smoothened by settlement process in Canada. I have learnt to work under pressure without impacting my social life to a huge extent. I expect to graduate by April 2014 and get a good in Canada in computer networking as that’s where my interest lies.
Since I love traveling I wish to explore other cities of Canada too especially east coast. My advice to every international student coming to Canada would be to come prepared for the cold winter, in clothing as well as attitude. You have to be willing to make the effort and look for chances to go out with friends and experience new things. If not, I’m afraid you will get homesick very quickly if you always stay inside because it’s cold. To every student coming from India I would suggest, do visit Center for Indo-Canadian Studies at UFV Abbotsford campus. The time I am spending at UFV, I just want to make sure that it turns out to be the best and the most profitable for my future. One thing is sure, when we become degree holders, we are not the same person who first walked in the gates of the University with a thirst to discover to learn and to adventure. I have learned so much and grown in so many ways – LIFE, here I come!
