The two day event was a great follow-up to the UFV hosted conference last August on <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/ita2012\/\">Indigenizing the Academy<\/a>. Shirley was accompanied by two UFV administrators, Vice provost\/Assistant V.P. Academic <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/blog\/tag\/peter-geller\/\">Dr. Peter Geller<\/a> and College of Arts Associate Dean of Faculty, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ufv.ca\/geography\/faculty-and-staff\/peopleken-brealeys-home-page\/\">Dr. Ken Brealey<\/a>, as well as Communications faculty member <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ufv.ca\/cmns\/faculty-and-staff\/faculty-members\/marcella-lafever\/\">Dr. Marcella LaFever<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The focus of the summit was to explore promising practices from across Canada that support the path to success for aboriginal students in the, often daunting, post-secondary environment. 150 participants were welcomed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uregina.ca\/president\/executive-team\/president\/biography.html\">Dr. Vianne Timmons<\/a>, President of the University of Regina and by<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fnuniv.ca\/history-2\/president-office\"> Juliano Tupone<\/a>, Acting President of Saskatchewan\u2019s First Nation University. Other notable presenters included <a href=\"http:\/\/www.perrybellegarde.com\/about_eng.html\">Chief Perry Bellegarde<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/nsb.com\/speakers\/view\/roberta-jamieson\">Roberta Jamieson<\/a>, Dr. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.banffcentre.org\/blog\/2010\/02\/01\/profile-cynthia-wesley-esquimaux\/\">Cynthia Wesley-Esquimaux<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uwinnipeg.ca\/index\/admin-president\">Dr. Lloyd Axworthy<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shawnatleo.com\/Home.html\">Assembly of First Nations National Chief, Shawn A-in-chut Atleo<\/a>.
