\"shirley<\/a> \"Shirley_Regina\"<\/a>Shirley Hardman, Senior Advisor on Indigenous Affairs<\/a> at University of the Fraser Valley, was pleased to be able to travel to the Regina, Saskatchewan this past week to attend the Lloyd Barber Summit on Aboriginal Post-Secondary Education<\/a>. The two day event was a great follow-up to the UFV hosted conference last August on Indigenizing the Academy<\/a>. Shirley was accompanied by two UFV administrators, Vice provost\/Assistant V.P. Academic Dr. Peter Geller<\/a> and College of Arts Associate Dean of Faculty, Dr. Ken Brealey<\/a>, as well as Communications faculty member Dr. Marcella LaFever<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The focus of the summit was to explore promising practices from across Canada that support the path to success for aboriginal students in the, often daunting, post-secondary environment. 150 participants were welcomed by Dr. Vianne Timmons<\/a>, President of the University of Regina and by Juliano Tupone<\/a>, Acting President of Saskatchewan\u2019s First Nation University. Other notable presenters included Chief Perry Bellegarde<\/a>, Roberta Jamieson<\/a>, Dr. Cynthia Wesley-Esquimaux<\/a>, Dr. Lloyd Axworthy<\/a> and Assembly of First Nations National Chief, Shawn A-in-chut Atleo<\/a>. A dynamic and interactive panel session with Chief Tammy Cook Searson<\/a>, Mr. Cadmus Delorme<\/a> and Dr. Shauneen Pete<\/a> was moderated by Mr. Paul Davidson, AUCC President<\/a>.<\/p>\n
