be true \u2013 <b>really walk your talk<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Hiring questions not relevant to experience or job description<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Academic qualifications given too much importance<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Tenure<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>afraid of tenure<b><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Faculty with tenure resistant to change<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Tokenism<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>can\u2019t find anyone to hire \u2013 need to be more creative than academic qualifications \u2013 beyond tokenism \u2013<b><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What is the Students\u2019 orientation<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Knowing their own history<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Question value and manipulation at interview<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Pre-European education<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Had to survive in their environment<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Student success<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>start student support circles<b><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What do we want our people to learn?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is it we want our people to learn?\u201d <b><\/b><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Challenging to bring traditional learning into university setting<b><\/b><\/li>\n<li>To what degree should we share our learning within the institution?<b><\/b><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0If not there, where else will they learn it?<b><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Residential schools<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How do we replace the learning that was lost due to residential school?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>European education vs past aboriginal learning<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0Student success and Skills for survival in environment<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Right to speak<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The need for learning \u2013 if I have a degree, I have the right to speak<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Degree<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Traditional learning<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>To what degree should we share our learning within institution<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Learning about cultural background<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>What is the story that goes with the learning<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Community consultation:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>first thing, community consultation to find community priorities;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0language, education, business, natural resources, health \u2013 advisory council to get First Nations on to faculty \u2013 can\u2019t find anyone to hire \u2013 need to be more creative than academic qualifications \u2013 beyond tokenism<\/li>\n<li>language needs to be taught<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0need to start \u201cteaching\u201d in our own communities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Language<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>language needs to be taught<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Business<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Health<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Culture and non-traditional \/ academic courses<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>in nursing school, had to do anatomy and physiology, had to dissect\u00a0 cadaver,<\/li>\n<li>but <b>culturally, never tamper with one who has passed on<\/b> \u2013<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0for the benefit of our people <b>you need to learn, watch, not touch<\/b> \u2013<\/li>\n<li>translate medicine into language \u2013<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0look at what will get used in surgery; our elders become our teachers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Learn by watching not by doing<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Bureaucracy<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>got tired that the University wanted me to prove what I could do, needed to write a resume; before, hired by what I knew, not what I did \u2013 meet needs, not be judgmental, who I am, not what I do<i>.\u00a0 <\/i><b><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Research and applying knowledge<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Take research and knowledge into the communities<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the work has already been done- the research has been done \u2013 need to apply what we already know<b><\/b><\/li>\n<li>start student support circles \u2013<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0need to start \u201cteaching\u201d in our own communities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
