Here&#8217;s your spot.<\/p>\n<p>Check in regularly to see what&#8217;s happening across the country and around the globe.<\/p>\n<h1 class=\"title\">UFV Indigenous Hosts N.I.R.E.D 2015: Brenda Sayers addresses Hupacasath First Nation&#8217;s court challenge to Canada&#8217;s Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement with China<\/h1>\n<p>National Indigenous Rights Education Day Speakers Series 2015\u00a0was hosted on February 27\u00a0 in UFV International&#8217;s Global Lounge.\u00a0 Brenda Sayers of Hupacasath First Nation (HFN)\u00a0spoke about her community&#8217;s challenge to the\u00a0signing, between Canada and China, of the latest of a series of FIPPAs.\u00a0It is modeled\u00a0after the\u00a0\u00a0North America Free Trade Agreement between the USA, Mexico, and Canada, but according to Brenda Sayers and\u00a0the HFN court challenge,\u00a0CCFIPPA could have far-reaching negative effects on sovereignty for all Canadians, not only First Nations. Her speech outlines the difficulty of the accord, and the outcomes of the appeal, as well as recommendations for the way forward. The new name, S\u2019eliyemetaxwtexw Art Gallery, will be officially recognized on Tues, Oct 16 at noon in Abby B136. In conjunction with this event,<a title=\"Tl'o Tem Wiyothtset\" href=\"http:\/\/lauraweelaylaq.wordpress.com\/2013\/02\/05\/2009-press-release-tlo-tem-wiyothtset\/\"><span style=\"color: #00703c\"> Tl\u2019o Tem Wiyothtset: It\u2019s Always Our Time<\/span><\/a>, an exhibit curated by <strong>Laura Wealick<\/strong> and <strong>Grace Tsurumaru<\/strong>, will open on the same day. Performances will be on Sat, Sept 27 at 7:30 pm and Sun, Sept 28 at 2 pm at the St\u00f3:l\u014d Resource Centre, 10-7201 Vedder Road in Chilliwack, BC. <a title=\"UFV and Sto-lo Nation stage Berlin Blues\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/indigenizingtheacademy\/2014\/09\/22\/ufv-theatre-department-ufv-indigenous-affairs-and-stolo-in-partnership-staged-reading-of-the-berlin-blues\/\" target=\"_blank\">Read more<\/a>\u00a0<\/section>\n<section class=\"entry\"><\/section>\n<section class=\"entry\"><a title=\"University of Regina Lloyd Barber Summit on Aboriginal Post-Secondary Education\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uregina.ca\/external\/communications\/feature-stories\/current\/fs-05152013.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Lloyd Barber Summit on Aboriginal Post-Secondary Education: Identifying Best Practices <\/a>is a two-day summit that will take place on May 23 and 24 of 2013.\u00a0 Organized by the University of Regina, the summit will explore best practices in post-secondary education and the delivery of quality education for Aboriginal peoples in Saskatchewan and beyond.<br \/>\nOne of the featured keynote speakers will be Roberta Jamieson, President and CEO of Indspire \u2013 a\u00a0 national organization dedicated to raising funds to deliver programs and provide the necessary tools for Indigenous people, especially youth, to achieve the fullest potential possible.
