In celebration of UFV’s 40th anniversary, the Visual Arts department presents a new title for the gallery space at the Abbotsford campus. The new name, S’eliyemetaxwtexw Art Gallery, will be officially recognized on Tues, Oct 16 at noon in Abby B136. In conjunction with this event, Tl’o Tem Wiyothtset: It’s Always Our Time, an exhibit curated by Laura Wealick and Grace Tsurumaru, will open on the same day. The installation features images from the Place Name Sign program at the Tourism Chilliwack Visitor Centre. The place names installed within Stó:lō traditional lands draws together the intrinsic relationship between the Halq’eméylem language and the geographic landmarks of the Fraser Valley region. We invite you to attend the exhibit in conjunction with the ceremony of the newly renamed Visual Arts Gallery: S’eliyemetaxwtexw (A place that holds dreams and visions). Light refreshments will be provided. This is a free event and everyone is welcome. For more information, contact Grace Tsurumaru at grace.tsurumaru@ufv.ca10/16/2014
