The patient lacked access to hearing aids and was unable to communicate, creating a substantial barrier to safety and care. Without the ability to hear instructions or express needs, essential assessments and interventions became difficult and potentially risky.<\/p>\n<p>Recalling a TikTok video she had recently seen, where a nurse improvised a simple voice amplifier using a Yankauer suction catheter, suction tubing, and a 60cc syringe. Using this idea as inspiration, she quickly and safely assembled the same setup at the bedside.<\/p>\n<p>The impact was immediate. The patient could suddenly hear and respond clearly, allowing accurate assessment, safe medication administration, and meaningful interaction. By restoring communication, Austyn not only enhanced the patient experience but also directly improved <strong>patient safety<\/strong>, ensuring that information was understood and care could proceed without guesswork.<\/p>\n<p>Her resourcefulness reflects a compassionate, patient-centred approach; meeting individuals where they are, adapting practice to their needs, and ensuring dignity and connection in every encounter.<\/p>\n<p>Austyn has now completed her preceptorship and looks forward to beginning her nursing career in the <strong>ARHCC ICU<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Congratulations, Austyn.
