A couple months later, in December, Bria accepted her dream job with Langley Public Health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew going into nursing that I wanted to pursue a career in public health,\u201d she shares. \u201cIt\u2019s just such a good environment. I always pictured myself doing this kind of work.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1108\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1108\" style=\"width: 390px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/health\/files\/2021\/03\/BriaCanil-2-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1108\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/health\/files\/2021\/03\/BriaCanil-2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/health\/files\/2021\/03\/BriaCanil-2-scaled.jpg 1706w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/health\/files\/2021\/03\/BriaCanil-2-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/health\/files\/2021\/03\/BriaCanil-2-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/health\/files\/2021\/03\/BriaCanil-2-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/health\/files\/2021\/03\/BriaCanil-2-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/health\/files\/2021\/03\/BriaCanil-2-1365x2048.jpg 1365w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1108\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bria Canil sits in front of her desk at Langley Public Health<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Now, her daily tasks include working closely with the school district to review student records and complete contact tracing for those exposed to the COVID-19 virus.<\/p>\n<p>Once the vaccines began to be delivered, Bria has assumed the role of COVID Immunization Site Lead and spends her days immunizing those in long-term care facilities, hospitals, and shelters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an exciting time because we\u2019re making history,\u201d she explains.<\/p>\n<p>She normally specializes in prenatal care, and much of her regular job is immunizing young babies. Ultimately, these skills are exactly what has allowed her to transition seamlessly into the fight against the pandemic and deliver dozens of vaccines daily.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would not be where I am today without the help of all the amazing teachers and practicum coordinators at UFV,\u201d she states. \u201cIt was a great journey from start to finish, and I recommend the BSN program to anyone whom I come across.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bria\u2019s time in the BSN program was very hands-on (an approach to nursing education that UFV is known for). She loved that each semester offered a practicum in a new and different area, and that she still had summers off to work as an LPN and make money to pay for her education.<\/p>\n<p>She worked with the practicum coordinators to ensure that she got the skills and training needed for her dream job.<\/p>\n<p>As Bria\u2019s story is just getting started, she offers advice to any students who are currently studying nursing: \u201cJust keep going. Take it one day at a time and it\u2019ll all be worth it.
