ECE 101: Intro to ECE

Children laughing and smiling in a class

The Intro to Early Childhood Education course at UFV is designed to set the tone of the whole ECE certificate program. You’ll focus on ethics, outdoor education, the impact of poverty, and a range of topics that affect the BC ECE curriculum and standards of care.

One such topic is $10 a day ChildCareBC. Introduced in 2018, this measure was designed to help make child care a service that BC families can rely on. All types of licensed child care operators are represented in this program, including rural and urban areas.

A report released in 2023 indicates challenges the program faces, but also highlights success with the significant impacts on the lives of single mothers. They became happier, their stress levels were reduced, and they had greater access to socialization and self-care.

A few things you should consider is:

  • how does this program affect the children?
  • how does the program affect the way you think about families?
  • are there other challenges you should be considering?

The University of the Fraser Valley’s commitment to providing quality ECE certificate program graduates will aid you in becoming a thoughtful, sensitive, and knowledgeable carer.

Welcome to ECE 101: Introduction to ECE!
