The inaugural <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanpodfest.ca\/\">Vancouver Podcast Festival<\/a> just took accessibility to the digital world to a new level this past <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/british-columbia\/vancouver-podcast-festival-connects-local-creators-1.4898315\">November 8th to the 10th<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/Arif.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1553 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/Arif-300x213.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"403\" height=\"286\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/Arif-300x213.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/Arif-768x545.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/Arif.png 990w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 403px) 100vw, 403px\" \/><\/a>I could only attend the Friday sessions but it was nice to bump into Jess Wind through the twitterverse while waiting for the panel discussion on &#8220;Idea to Audio&#8221; to commence. Jess was waiting eagerly for the livecast of <a href=\"https:\/\/hannahmcgregor.com\/bio\/\">Hannah McGregor&#8217;s<\/a> podcast <a href=\"https:\/\/secretfeministagenda.com\/category\/podcast\/\">Secret Feminist Agenda<\/a> in the next session but it seems we did have at least one thing in common &#8211; getting some tips on starting a podcast from a fantastic panel that included some people that even other successful podcasters were eager to hear. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/contact-short.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1550 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/contact-short-300x125.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/contact-short-300x125.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/contact-short-768x320.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/contact-short.png 792w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One question to the panel about ways to assess success led to a nice little list, from the obvious &#8220;downloads&#8221; to the more obscure and harder to measure &#8211; big data on whether audience listened all the way through or when they dropped out. Other measures included<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>interactions at podcast events<\/li>\n<li>engagement through twitter, FB, Instagram<\/li>\n<li>Returning listeners<\/li>\n<li>critical reviews<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>with a reminder for &#8220;different measures for differ<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/idea-to-audio.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1552 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/idea-to-audio-300x246.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"417\" height=\"342\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/idea-to-audio-300x246.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/idea-to-audio-768x629.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/idea-to-audio-1024x839.png 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ufv.ca\/cmns\/files\/2018\/11\/idea-to-audio.png 1160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 417px) 100vw, 417px\" \/><\/a>ent types.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In Hannah McGregor&#8217;s session that followed, we were treated to Hannah&#8217;s first ever live interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/secretfeministagenda.com\/2018\/11\/23\/episode-3-8-theres-secret-feminism-under-everything-including-lawyering-with-gloria-ng-and-colleen-elden\/\">two women criminal defense attorneys<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/secretfeministagenda.com\/2018\/11\/23\/episode-3-8-theres-secret-feminism-under-everything-including-lawyering-with-gloria-ng-and-colleen-elden\/\">Gloria Ng and Colleen Elden.<\/a> As Hannah puts it, to talk about &#8220;charter rights, feminist friendship, and whether the law is a tool that can be bent towards justice or is inherently aligned with the oppressive function of the state!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The final free session of the day was one with CBC&#8217;s Geoff Turner about his podcast<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/radio\/ondrugs\"> On Drugs\u00a0<\/a>and David Payne&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbswpodcast.com\/\">Somebody Somewhere<\/a> taking on true stories of the legal system.
